Where is the Sonoran Desert?
The Sonoran Desert includes regions
north and east of the Gulf of California
and it includes portions of
the U.S. states of Arizona and California
and the Mexican states of Sonora, Sinaloa,
Baja California Norte, and Baja California Sur.
Sonoran Desert California Region
The Lower Colorado River Valley includes parts of
four U.S. states, and it is the only part of the
Sonoran Desert that extends into California.
This part of the Sonoran Desert is more commonly
known as the Colorado Desert. The California
section is located in the far southeast corner
of the state in a region bordered by Mexico and Arizona.
It includes the Salten Sea and the California
side of the Colorado River.
