Harriet Pullman Carolan, heiress to the Pullman railroad car company fortune, constructed this lavish mini-palace in 1915-16, the focal point of a fully landscaped 500-acre estate. Willis Polk supervised construction of the American Renaissance-design residence, which is an adaptation of Vaux le Vicomte, also prototype for the Palace of Versailles. In the early 1950s, Countess Lillian Remillard Dandini acquired the chateau and the six remaining acres of land. This property was also listed in the National Register of Historic Places on 10/21/75.

Also known as "The Chateau". French Classical architecture mansion built built by Pullman Railroad heiress Harriet Pullman Carolan around 1915. It is approximatley 65,000 square feet in size, making it one of the largest residents in the United States. It is listed on the United STates National Register of Historic Places. Located at 565 Remillard Drive in Hillsborough.

The Flintstone House
Designed by William Nicholson and built around 1976 by spraying concrete over balloon-shaped forms. Was originally white in color but it was painted a deep burnt orange color in the late 2000's. Also known as the Barbapapa House, the Dome House, thge Bubble House, the Marshmallow House, The home can be seen to the east from the Doran Memorial Bridge, northbound on Highway 280 between the Bunker Hill and Hayne-Black Mountain exits. The Flintstone house is located at 45 Berressa Way in Hillsborough.

Uplands Home
Built by Templeton Crocker, as a gift to his fiancee Helène Irwin, heiress to the C&H Sugar family fortune. Designed by Willis Polk; opened in 1912, with interior of 35,000 ft² (3,250 m²). Home since the 1950s to Crystal Springs Uplands School.
