Information about historic buildings, places, and markers officially designated as city historic sites by the government of the city of Ione.

SITE: Chinatown Ione Monument
LOCATION: South Side of Main Street, top of the hill
DESCRIPTION: Historic marker dedicated to the community of about 1,000 Chinese residents that once existed on about 5 acres of land north of the monument.

SITE: City Hall of Ione
LOCATION: One East Main Street
DESCRIPTION: The original building on this site was a three-story hotel constructed in 1864. After that building was destroyed by a fire today's single-story building was constructed in 1930, and that structure was remodeled in 1966.

Last steam locomotive to operate over the Amador Central Railroad. Displayed in Pioneer Park at One East Main Street behind City Hall

SITE: Ione Annual Picnic Marker
LOCATION: 600 South Church Street
DESCRIPTION: Historic marker for a 100 Acre Howard Park, leased to the City of Ione by the Howard Estate on May 11, 1967. The Ione Picnic is held the first weekend in May and it features equestrian events and other activities.

SITE: Ione Brewery
LOCATION: 338 Preston Avenue
DESCRIPTION: 1860's building that has, over the years, housed a brewery a creamery, a soda works,and ice cream plan in the 1800's and early 1900's.

SITE: Ione Elementary School Bell
LOCATION: 415 South Ione Street
DESCRIPTION: Honors the pioneer mothers and fathers of Ione

SITE: Ione Methodist Church
LOCATION: 450 South Mill Street
DESCRIPTION: The site's original two story structure was the Ione Academy, built in 1903 as the first high school in Amador Academy. Served as a school until 1939. Remodeled as a single story building that later burned down. Rebuilt in 1972 as a replica of the one story building.

SITE: Iron Ivan
LOCATION: Pioneery Park, One East Main Street, Behind City hall
DESCRIPTION: Old Number 7 was the last steam locomotive to operate over the Amador Central Railroad between Amador and Martell.

SITE: Old Red Brick Building Saloon
LOCATION: 12 West Main Street
DESCRIPTION: Originally known as the Old Brick Building and later as the Scully Building.

SITE: Parlor Number 33 N.S.G.W.
LOCATION: 25 East Main Street
DESCRIPTION: Built in 1954. Originally a hardware store on the ground floor and a dance hall on the upper floor. The building was bought by Ione Parlor Number 33 N.S.G.W in 1884.

SITE: Pioneer Park Monument
LOCATION: One East Main Street, Behind City Hall
DESCRIPTION: Honors the memory of pioneer men and woment of Ione.

SITE: Preston Castle Historic Marker
LOCATION: About a mile North of Ione on Highway 104
DESCRIPTION: Roadside Marker

SITE: Scully Ranch
LOCATION: 9805 Dave Brubeck Road
DESCRIPTION: Residence built i the 1850's on property settled by J. P. Martin in 1848. Bought by Irish immigrant William Scully in 1854.

SITE: Steam Flour Mill
LOCATION: 217 West Jackson Street
DESCRIPTION: Grinding mill for barley, oats, and corn that was built in 1856.

SITE: Stewart General Store
LOCATION: 18 East Main Street
DESCRIPTION: Built by Daniel Stewart in 1856 as a general store. Considered the first building constructed in the Ione Valley.
