the total airline passengers boarding airplanes in
the United States.
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
Located in the Los Angeles community of Westchester.
LAX is bounded on the south by the city of El Segundo,
on the east by the city of Inglewood, and
on the north by the Los Angeles County small boat harbor
community of Marina del Rey. In 2009, the Los
Angeles International Airport served nearly 60 millioin
passengers, making it the busiest airport in California
and the 6th busiest airport in the world.
San Francisco International Airport (SFO)
Located about 13 miles south of Downtown San Francisco, in a
San Mateo County area adjacent to the cities of San Bruno
and Millbrae. In 2009 the Sa Francisco International Airport
transportated about 37 million passengers, making it the
2nd busiest airport in California, the 10th busiest airport
in the United States and the 20th busiest airport in the world.
San Diego International Airport (SAN)
Located about 3 miles northwest of Downtown San Diego
and about 20 miles from the Mexican border town of Tijuana.
The San Diego Airport is famous for being the second busiest
single-runway airport in the world, second only to
London's Gatwick Airport. In 2007 the San Diego Airport
transported approximately 18 million passengers in 2007.
The San Diego International Airport is sometimes known as
"Lindbergh Field".
