Information for visitors to the census designated place of Washington in Nevada County, California. Washington is a hitoric town situated on the banks of the Yuba River's South Fork. When the town was founded in 1849 it was known as "Indiana Camp" because it was founded by a group of miners who traveld to California from Indiana. It was renamed "Washington" in 1850.
